Show or hide questions
Keep your form short by showing questions only to the people who need them. For example, show "Please give details" only when someone answers Yes.
Steps
- In the builder, open the settings of the question you want to show or hide (click it, then Edit).
- Scroll to Show or hide at the bottom of the window.
- Change Always show it to Only show it when… or Hide it when….
- In Pick a question, choose the question it depends on.
- Choose is, is not, is answered or is not answered.
- For is and is not, pick the answer from the list. For a question without a list, type the answer.
- Click Save in the window, then Save at the top of the builder.
More than one condition
Click + Add another condition to add more. Then choose whether all of these are true or any of these is true. Click the cross next to a condition to remove it.
Show or hide a whole section
Put the questions in a Box / page (from Design elements) and set Show or hide on the box. Everything inside it shows or hides together. See Pages and sections.
Good to know
- A hidden question is never mandatory, even if Mandatory is ticked, so it can't stop the form being sent.
- Answers to hidden questions are not kept, and they don't appear on the response or its PDF.
- For a Tick box, the answers to pick from are Ticked and Not ticked.
- Try your rules with Phone view: it works like the real form, and nothing is sent.
- If you change the wording of an option a rule uses, open the rule and pick the answer again. See Lists of options.
- When you copy a form from another tool, Formhub copies or adds rules where it can. Rules it added, or couldn't copy, are listed under Please check:. See Bring your existing forms.
