Take card payments in a form
Your forms can take a card payment, for example for tickets, orders or fees. The money goes straight into your own Stripe account.
Before you start
Card payments in forms are part of some packages, not all. See Packages and billing or our pricing.
Connect your Stripe account (once)
- In the menu, under Settings, click Settings for all forms.
- In the Take payments in forms box, click Connect Stripe.
- Stripe asks for your business details and the bank account to pay you into. If you already use Stripe, sign in with that account.
- When Stripe sends you back, the box shows Connected. If Stripe still needs details, click Finish setting up Stripe to carry on.
Add a payment to a form
- Open the form in the Form builder.
- Drag the Payment field from Form fields onto your form, then open its settings.
- Under Charge, choose one of:
- A set price: the same amount for everyone.
- A price for each, times a number they choose: for example A$25 for each ticket. Pick the question that holds the number.
- The amount in a question, such as a Calculation total: see Calculations.
- For a set price or a price for each, enter the price in Australian dollars (at least A$0.50). Then type what it's for. That wording appears on the receipt.
- Click Save in the settings window, then Save at the top of the builder.
What the applicant sees
The form shows "Amount to pay", which updates as they answer, and a card box from Stripe. The card is charged when they press Submit. If the card box can't load, they go to Stripe's secure payment page instead.
Good to know
- Formhub takes no fee. Stripe charges its normal card fee.
- The amount is always worked out again by Formhub when the form is sent, so nobody can change the price in their browser.
- Payments are in Australian dollars. If the amount works out to nothing, the form is sent without a payment. Amounts under A$0.50 can't be paid by card.
- The response is emailed to you only once it's paid. In Responses, unpaid ones show Not paid and paid ones show Paid.
- If a card is declined, the answers are kept and the applicant can try again. If they leave without paying, they see Pay now to finish later.
- Stripe emails a receipt if the applicant gave an email address.
- A Payment field inside a hidden section charges nothing (see Show or hide questions).
- See payments and payouts in your Stripe dashboard.
